Spreading of the Lime

This past week the preparation of the lands for planting started.

First the weeds had to be killed off and so the entire field was sprayed with a weed killer. It takes about three days for the weeds to die off and if this is not done they will take over the entire crop within the first month or two.

Strong Winds Coming Up

The lime is the next to be spread and on Friday they were busy for about three hours when such strong winds came up that they had to abort their spread. The wind can spray the lime for a few kilometers and it can turn out to be a costly affair loosing the lime.

Fun On The Zip Line

The weather has been really hot over the weekend and this afternoon we had a good build up of rain clouds but that has all disappeared now. I am sure we will have our first good downpour within the next two weeks. Once it has rained, the farmers are all set to plough and plant.

Our new zip line was used for the first time this afternoon with the kids having an absolutely super time. We still have to tweak it here and there to make a smooth ride and get the landing distance right, but they loved it. It’s amazing how the city kids enjoy it when they get so dirty on the farm.
