White Lions, Wild Dogs, Cheetah and Hyena Near Rich Ranch

Due to the unfortunate happenings with the theft here on the farm we met a neighbour who we had only heard of before.

White Lions

White Lions
We had heard what a lovely place "Sebaka" was and that they were building up their wild life and had made huge  changes to the farm.

So who would ever have thought that right on our doorstep was the most amazing collection of wild animals. They are being used for breeding purposes and have beautiful and thoughtfully layed out camps.

Hyena
We were invited to visit on feeding day and as we arrived at the gate we were met by the farm manager in his viewing Land Rover. It was still early so the Blesbok , Zebra and Giraffe were quietly grazing as we drove past.

Wild Dogs
First up to be fed were the White Lions. They are only about fifteen months old but you surely don't want to be in the same camp as they are when you see how they rip their food apart. They have huge paws so will grow into huge animals.

Next up were they Hyenas. There were only three of them and one had just had her babies and as soon as the food landed in their camp she took off with a portion to go and feed her young. Nature is absolutely wonderful.

Cheetah
In the adjoining camp was the Wild Dogs. I have never seen them in real life and they are every bit as awesome as they are in the books. They feed in packs and as the food is thrown in the camp they all feed off one piece until finished and then move on to the next piece. There were fourteen of them in the camp and I checked on the web and found there are fewer than 5000 left in the wild. They are on the endangered species list.

Next was the Cheetah camp. There is only one pair of cheetah and they were very wary of  us and we only saw the male up close. He came to collect the food and took it off to his mate up in the hillside. We did though catch a glimpse of her in the distance.

This was an absolute treat of a day. Enjoy our photos.
