Tomatoes on Rich Ranch
We are always trying out something new on the farm. So have a look at this.
Last year I saw an ad on TV where you could grow your veggies in a tub that hung on your porch; this was especially good if you lived in a flat. I wanted to try this out so I enquired and because of the vast amount of veggies we use with the schools that visit us here, I would need a lot of these tubs. They were a bit pricy so we put our thinking caps on and came up with this idea.
If I were to plant the tomato and green pepper plants in all our 5L cans that we have, this might be our solution.
Last year we had an abundance of tomatoes using this method. I think the pros for growing them like this are – their roots stay warm in the tubs so they grow quicker, you are not always touching your plants to string them up and therefore damaging them, there are no weeds to bother them, you can also put your granular fertilizer in the top and each day you water your veggies in just drains into the roots and does not burn your plant. The only thing is that you must see to is that they are damp all the time. Oh and of course you must talk to them.
The tomatoes in the picture have only been in for 2 weeks. Pretty good don’t you think? Why don’t you try it?
Maybe I’ll let you in on more farm secrets at a later stage. Later
