Update at Rich Ranch

Well there was the mother of mother’s storm yesterday afternoon. It swept in from Mozambique side and pounded us with rain and hail for a good 30 minutes. It left us with 32mm in the rain gauge and no lights for about three hours. This did us a whole lot of good cause we could then get down to doing our crosswords that we haven’t been able to do lately.

As you know (if you have been following http://www.richranch.blogspot.com/ ) that it has been children and children and more children on the farm. Our lives stay very interesting with what we do and I think it is only here in South Africa where you can meet such diverse groups of people. Over the last few weeks we have had the schools from very affluent areas and then schools from areas where the community really battles. We have had church groups and then just dinkum fun camps playing with the kids. On the serious side we have camps where we do leadership skills, so you can see no day is the same for us.

OK so I thought you might want to see what the upside garden is doing. 20 days down the line and they look like this. We should be harvesting the first fruit in about 2 week’s time. Cool don’t you think.

Then I also googled “Sugar Graze” so here it is:

Sugar Graze is a 3-way cross sorghum x sorgho x sudan-grass hybrid designed for grazing, green chop or hay. Sugar Graze grows off rapidly and its sweet succulent stalks and broad deep green leaves result in excellent quality forage. I think this is for a special kind of Sugar Graze but it give an idea of what it is. I will investigate some more.

See you on the other side
