Update at Rich Ranch

I was very busy this week and could not get to post. During the week we get a phone call from London (you know who you are) and I get jazzed on because I am not keeping the blog up to date.

Today is the day that they will be coming planting our sugar graze and as usual something will break or get bogged down or just not feel like working. So we get this early morning call to bring the welder as the planters something has fallen off. (I’ll find out what that something is and let you know) This we have come to realize is nothing new to a farmer. If you think how hard your tractor or TLB works then you will understand why it sometimes just says some grease or I need a new part.

The farmers around us have all planted their crops over the last two weeks and you can see the green rows appearing in the fields. Now we just wait for consistent rain to see that we all have a good crop. We have had 87mm rain in October which is more than double in October 2008 which was 41mm. The trouble come if we have a dry period between now and January, which sometimes happens.

The hanging garden of tomatoes and green peppers is at that stage where we are harvesting already and the kids think it is great when they eat “Upside down Vegetables”. I am not sure if they think it tastes different. I do know that it tastes much better than the tomatoes that we buy and the veggie store. They have a good taste and texture in comparison to all those long life and fast tunnel grown tomatoes. Do yourselves a favour and try some out. It will only take two or three tomato plants to feed your family for ages, and if you stagger the planting you could have tomatoes all year round.

OK you guys in London – this is not completely up to date but I promise I will try to post more often.

To the “Man of the Match” well done.
