Over the last few days our crops have all been planted and on Thursday and Friday evening we had soft steady rains. 29mm to be exact. This is just what the doctor ordered for the seeds to germinate. This year we have sugar graze and mielies which will be made into silage for the winter feed. We now wait in anticipation for the first green shoots to appear. What we do have to watch out for are the guinea foul and the warthog. The guinea foal love to dig up and eat the seed. You will often find them walking down the row and lifting the seed as they go. The warthog on the other hand will cause so much damage when the plants are still very young. They just dig up and destroy everything in their way. Anyway even though we have all these hassles we still have to plant so that we have feed for the cattle next winter.
The last two days have been very hot and our temperatures have passed 32 deg. Our “Hanging Gardens” have to be watered twice a day to survive. Crops are in abundance and we are eating tomatoes like you would eat fruit. The green peppers are also not too far of from being picked.
Today we have a school from Botswana that will be visiting for the week so if I don’t post for a few days please bear with me.
Hope you are settling in down under
Later.
