Excitement on Rich Ranch

So we have been busy with the camps and what a variety of people we have entertained on the farm. From leadership camps where we covered subjects such as planning, how to conduct a meeting, etc to Church groups where the kids sang their hearts out and praised to just having a good adventure camp and getting plain dirty on the farm. It’s been loads of fun the past few weeks and that is what makes my job an absolute pleasure.
"Spraying Of The Beans"
If you look at the bean lands it is amazing how they have grown with us not having enough rain. Whenever we have been to Johannesburg we have been amazed at the amount of rain there and the little or no rain we then have on the farm. Last year this time was when we had all our floods and damage to the swimming pool, roads and even the crops of that time were damaged by too much water.
All of a sudden our two granddaughters that went to Grade four this year have matured overnight. You can see that this is a new level of education and the schools are preparing them for the next level of education. They are going more in depth of each subject that they do and there is a vast amount of home each day that they did not have last year. Sometimes we worry about the education here in our country but the girls are at different schools and you can see the difference in both of them. It also seems as if there is continuity at the schools. Good for our children.
"Leopard Attack"
One morning last week Richard was on his quad down in the valley when he heard a spine chilling shriek and next thing he saw a Steenbok come tumbling down the mountain, landing in the road a few meters ahead of him. The buck was in serious distress with what looked like his neck broken. Richard returned to fetch help to put the buck down. William who is one of our workers went off with him and as usual I wanted photos so I gave William the task of getting a photo back to me. William who has never used a camera in his life did a pretty good job. In all his nervousness about this task that I gave him remembered everything I told him. Once they got down to looking at what happened with the buck they found that it had been attached by a leopard. The teeth marks were there as evidence. What an exciting life we live down here on the farm.
Tomorrow we have school camp again so it’s back to work and getting ready for our guests.
