Yesterday we had our first rains. You have to be on the farm to appreciate the exhilarating feeling of new life when these first rains fall. You can smell it in the air. You can hear it in the exiting talk of all around you. You can feel it in your bones. It is just an extreme feeling. We have had some trouble with the TLB. There is nothing new in something breaking down on the farm. Everything works overtime here, but it will soon be up and running. Just can't be without it. The lands will be all be finally ploughed in the next few days and then we get ready to start planting our feed for next winter. We are slowly learning what the cows enjoy and what is good for them to keep them in good condition through the winter when they are pregnant. Why are all the cows pregnant in winter? Good question. The bulls only come and visit at a certain time. Our bulls visit a neighbouring farm until it is time for them to do their work and then off they go again after about 3 months. All the cows have their babies at the same time and we can then do everything that has to be done to the calves at the same time, like inject, vaccinate, deworm, dehorn and all the rest. It makes life easy for all. More later
