Do you ever get a sudden urge to do something way out of the ordinary? This morning that happened to me.
Yesterday the cold set in so it was really a case of packing out the gloves, scarves and beanies. I cannot remember when last I have experienced frost on the farm – it must be at least 8 years - but yesterday it was white as snow.
Frosty Morning |
Lying in in the morning when it is weekend and nothing to do would be the sane thing to do, but not this morning. I had Richard up at 6am. Gloves, scarves and beanies ready. We were going for a hike.
Along The Way |
With a temperature of 1deg and frost on the ground we set off. Richard could pick the route as long as I could enjoy the early morning out in the veld. We went along the plateau and then down the cliff into the valley and down to the bass dam. The dogs were with as well and they enjoy this even more than we do. It was quiet and crisp and you could see the steam of your breath hang in front of you. The sky was so clear that we could see way past Witbank from the lookout point just before we drop down into the valley. These are the occasions when I really enjoy the farm.
One thing I must tell you. I am really a yuppie in disguise. I love my comforts and wherever we go there are some things I do not leave behind. One is my hair dryer and then I can start making a list. Lipstick, hand cream, sun glasses, etc, etc, etc. Then there is something that I would kill for and that is coffee, so you must know that even when we go on a hike like this morning, we will have the luxury of coffee. In my back pack is my Bible, my camera to keep you updated and a flask of coffee. I get mocked about it but let me tell you all enjoy my coffee at one time or another.
We spent a quiet hour down at the dam just soaking up the tranquil beauty and of course my piping hot coffee. What a way to spend the morning.
